What about Jesus – On Calming Fears

Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your GOD goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. [Moses speaking to all Isreal]

Psalm 23 – The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quite waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest of valleys, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. [In Samuel 2, King David is pitted in battle against his own son, Absalom.  It seems likely he wrote Psalm 23 while in Manhanaim, just before his son’s death]

Psalm 34:4 – I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 118:5-6 – When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place.  The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid.

Matthew 10:28 – Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.  Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and the body in hell.

2 Timothy 1:7 -For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Hebrews 13:5,6 – Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you;never will I forsake you.”

Prayer When There is Strife (from our hymnal)
O Lord, it grieves me that anger, strife, and bitterness have become a part of my life.  Forgive my sins and renew my spirit so that I will pardon others, correct the mistakes I have made, and be more cheerful toward those around me.  Remind me though your Word that your Son’s peace provides the needed hope and reason for healing and change.
