“He [Jesus] said to them, ‘How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!  Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?’  And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” (Luke 24:25-27)

Time is a precious commodity in our world.  We make decisions on what to do based on whether or not it is “worth our time.”  What do you use your time for?

On Easter Sunday, the most important day of history, when Christ rose from the dead He proved that He had defeated sin, death, and the devil.  What does Jesus spend His time doing on this most important day?  He spent the afternoon explaining Scripture to two of His followers on the road to Emmaus.

Why are we glad to see this?  Because it shows us our Savior’s love.  They sinfully were not believing God’s Word that said that Jesus had to suffer, die, and rise.  So Jesus confronted them and explained God’s Word to them.  Jesus directed them into God’s Word and it’s God’s Word that made their hearts burn with joy.

Jesus does the same for you and me.  No, He doesn’t appear to us visibly and physically, but He does instruct us about the most important things in life through His Word.  In God’s Word He gives us treasures beyond compare assuring us that our sins are forgiven, that death has been defeated, that eternal life is ours, and so many more!  Through His Word Jesus strengthens our faith, renews our hope, and gives us joy that will last forever.  Those are treasures that last forever!

Thank you Jesus for taking the time to open my eyes and heart to your Word!

Treasuring God’s gracious Words, just like you,

pastor
