“But he [Jesus] walked right through the crowd and went on his way.” (Luke 4:30)
They were about to toss Jesus off the cliff to kill him. Jesus had told the people of His own hometown that He was the Messiah and He also confronted their sinful and unbelieving hearts. They rejected Him and wanted to kill Him.
But Jesus walked right through the crowd and went on His way. What does that show us?
First, Jesus is God. Jesus is all powerful. They couldn’t touch Him because He didn’t let them. That same Jesus is the all-powerful Lord of your life. Yes, He is ruling all things in the universe to bring about His purposes.
Second, it shows that Jesus’ death would be a willing one. Jesus could have done this same thing in the Garden of Gethsemane. No one could arrest Jesus unless Jesus allowed it. That means that when Jesus was arrested and put to death, He did so willingly. They didn’t take His life, He laid it down because He wanted to save you!
Lastly, Jesus came for a much greater rejection. Rejected by His own hometown was bad. But that’s nothing compared to the rejection Jesus faced on the cross. Jesus was rejected by God Himself. Jesus cried out in agony infinitely beyond our comprehension, “My God, my God why have you forsaken me?” He was rejected by God on the cross for every sin of every sinner, He was rejected for you.
But since Jesus was rejected by God in your place, you never will be. In fact, because Jesus was rejected for you, God now accepts you fully and totally. In Jesus you have full acceptance.
What could be better than that?
Appreciating God’s acceptance, just like you,
