“But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ” (Philippians 3:7-9)
“I’ve got a list of to-do items a mile long and I haven’t completed any!” “I have terrible grades, I’m awful at sports, I’m just no good.”
One of the lies that we can easily start to believe is that our worth in life is determined by our performance. What that means is that we’re only as good as what we are able to accomplish. If I fail to perform in life up to a particular standard, I’m no good. In what ways in your life are you believing that lie?
The spiritual danger of believing this lie will either lead us to pride- thinking that we are worth more or more important than others because we do this or haven’t done that in life. Or, believing this lie will lead to despair – if I haven’t done this or I have done that I’m worth nothing and my life is awful.
Thank the Lord that Jesus sets us free from this lie! Notice what God says, when it comes to everything we’ve done or not done in life, it’s all a loss, it’s all garbage in comparison to what Jesus has done for you. You see, God doesn’t judge you on your performance record – what you’ve done or not done in life – He judges you based on Jesus’ perfect performance record for you.
What is your real worth in life? It’s determined by God. How much does God say you’re worth to Him? You’re worth the blood of His own Son which He shed on the cross to purchase you for eternal life. If you’re worth the blood of Jesus, how much does that make you worth? Priceless.
Find your worth in life not in what you’ve done or not done in life, but the infinite value God has placed on you in Christ Jesus your Savior!
Worth the blood of Jesus, just like you,
pastor
