“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to hold on to everything I have instructed you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Why am I here? What’s my purpose in life? That’s a question that everyone needs an answer to. What’s the point of my life?
It’s so easy to begin to think that the point of my life is all about…ME! I’m here to serve…ME! I want what’s best for…ME! I want things to work out in MY favor! The reason is: our sinful nature is always selfish. And the result is a life that’s never fulfilling. Why? Because that’s not the purpose for which God made us or the purpose for which He’s bought and won us!
In amazing unselfish love, God chose to send Jesus to rescue us from our selfishness. At the cross Jesus forgave us all our sin and all our selfishness. At the cross Jesus freed us from selfishness to live a new life. And in even further grace God brought the message of salvation to you and me and worked faith in our hearts to believe it! You are right now an heir of eternal life!
So why am I here? Why hasn’t God taken me home yet? Because He has a purpose for us and it’s really not about you or me. It’s about knowing Christ and making Him known to others. It’s about growing in faith and going with the gospel to others. It’s about hearing and receiving the Word and Sacraments and sharing the message of eternal life with others.
The reality is: You’re here for an eternal purpose!
Thankful to God for the purpose He’s given me, just like you,
pastor
