What is Armageddon?
In the Bible, Armageddon is described as a war waged between God and his
enemies signaling the end of the world. Some think Armageddon is a physical battle that will take place to signal the end, some think it will be many record breaking natural disasters, some think asteroids will destroy the world and yet some think it will be an elevated persecution of Christians. This is not what God says in His Word. God says that the last day will be like the days of Noah. People were marrying and giving in marriage, eating and drinking until Noah entered the ark. Armageddon is the spiritual war that God fights for us. This war began whensin entered the world and will continue to intensify as the last day approaches. Believers will constantly be tempted to reject God. In Revelation, God describes these temptations as beasts. The beasts represent governments, false teachings within his church, and our own sinful desires.
Prior to the culmination of Armageddon, Satan is released to gather his followers to prepare for battle. God says that Satan’s numbers are as the sand of the sea. They surround God’s people preparing to attack and kill them. God’s people will think that they are defeated just like the Israelites at the Red Sea. To them death was imminent. This is what it will be like for believers on the last day, and God will then save them just like He saved the Israelites. God has proven to us in the Old Testament that he keeps all His promises. For this reason, believers do not fear the last day. They hope for it because of God’s promise that at the coming of the Lord they will be caught up in the clouds with Him and those who have risen from their sleep.
