“Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, ‘Go south to the road – the desert road – that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch” (Acts 8:26-27).
If you lost your wallet, how much effort would you put into finding it? My guess is, you would put a whole bunch of other things in your life on hold until you found your wallet. Awhile ago I lost my wallet. I spent hours searching our house and even calling the store where I had last been. I put a lot of effort into finding it (and thankfully did end up finding it.)
The more valuable something is to us the more effort we are willing to expend to find it. If I had simply lost fifty cents, I guarantee you I wouldn’t have spent that much effort in looking for it.
Did you notice what God did here in this text? This isn’t long after Jesus’ death and resurrection. It’s time for the gospel to be spread to the world and God takes one of His precious evangelists and sends him to share Jesus with…one person. He didn’t send him to a huge city or a large country…but to one person. That’s how much God values even one soul! Jesus sent His precious messenger to one person!
How much effort are you and I willing to expend on reaching one individual? Unfortunately, I have to admit that at times it’s less than the effort I spend looking for something like my wallet.
And yet, God sought me out! God sought you out! God valued you so much that He used one (or even many!) of His precious messengers to share Jesus with you! God sought you out individually and personally! Thank the Lord for that parent, that pastor, that teacher, that friend whom God used to seek you out!
This Mother’s Day thank the Lord for good moms who know their primary responsibility as mothers is to be God’s precious messengers seeking and sharing Jesus with their precious children.
Rejoicing that God sought me out, just like you,
pastor
